The things to remember about ponchos is that *you* might be dry from the thighs on up but be careful around people who aren't. I can now get those dollar store ponchos (still using them for quick things) into a quart size bag (two of the ponchos in there). As time goes on, you will be able to fold it up smaller and smaller (trust me) and the bag size can decrease. No need to make sure the poncho is correctly folded, you can just shove it in the bag and seal when on an attraction. For the first time, take a gallon size zipper bag and use that. If you decide on any poncho, do NOT expect to shove the thing back into the original bag. The "old" yellow ones (I think the last year those were available). Then I threw in the towel (again, no pun intended) and got the Disney ponchos. So I got ponchos at Wal Mart that were thicker but still not that great. Next trip, I took cheap dollar store ponchos and those were OK but not that thick. And then a day at Animal Kingdom with eh rain coming down sideways and I "folded" (no pun intended). You will tons of advice on ponchos and even if you should take them so here are my experiences with over sixty trips.Īt first, I never took a poncho because I didn't want to be loaded down. Now, we only do Disney ponchos- although I do usually take some dollar store ones in my bag for water rides on cooler days, or before ADRs. They were big and bulky and like the other ponchos- the hood had 2 positions it would stay in- over my eyes, or so far back that the whole front of my hair was getting wet. We usually wear the Disney ones to football games at home too, but one year we decided to buy the expensive team ponchos -they were brand name-I think Coleman, but I could be wrong.

We have brought the more expensive keeper ones from Target and Walmart- those the hood would fall down over my eyes or water would come in the neck- DD had the same issue- we threw those away and got Disney ones. For a rainy day they don't work well because they rip really fast, especially if you are getting in and out of rides. We have brought the dollar ones before- they are fine if you pull them out for just one ride like Kali or Splash and throw them away. That way you stay totally dry and can still go from ride to ride.In our experience, the Disney ones are the best. We also have rain suits we wear when the rain is set in for the day. I actually used one of those little bag sealers you can buy at Bed Bath & Beyond and heat sealed the sides of our Disney ponchos so that if it's raining, the water doesn't come in the sides. If I'm carrying a larger bag, I carry the Disney ones. If I'm carrying a small bag, I bring the deposable ones that day. The ones at Wal Mart and the Disney ones have enough extra on the sides to pull under before you sit down. They are also too short to sit on with the hood on which defeats the purpose. The hoods are too small and you get soaked. If you buy the cheaper ones, don't buy the ones at the dollar store. The only reason we bought new ones, was that we left our other ones in the car and didn't want to go back out and get them. They don't tear like the dollar store ones. The ones we bought in May cost 7.00 each, but they are really good ones. The new ones are a little thinner, but they feel much better. We have Disney ponchos from this year and two years ago.
